Peruvian daily La República broke the story yesterday morning with the headline 'AUF Contracted Prostitute To Buy Argentine Referee', with the report suggesting that referee Sergio Pezzotti was approached in an attempt to influence the result of the match that took place on the 18th November 2007.

Looking back at the game, the opposite appeared to be true, as Chile were given a somewhat soft penalty decision, while Uruguay were denied two that could easily have been given in their favour. Unsurprisingly, Pezzotti himself was also quick to deny the accusations.
